"Hoist your feast pants!"
Yesterday afternoon, my brother Matteo and I held a joint going-away party with both sides of our family at my uncle's house in Santa Monica. (My brother is going off to college today!) At the party, my ever-witty relatives gave me a card that said "Hoist your feast pants" (which is apparently a direct translation of an expression in Mandarin that means-- "come in hungry" to a restaurant). I thought it was a funny title for the blog, but the title might change when I realize that this is : A) not a real expression, B) It doesn't mean what they said it does, or C) I find something better and less potentially-offensive-by-way-of-over-simplification-of-Mandarin. Until then, here it is.
